My notebook with on-board NVIDIA GeForce Go 6100 was hot and sometimes it was too hot ;)
Now it isn't. It is cool and silent (GPU temperature is 10 degrees lower now). But it wasn't easy to investigate, NVIDIA has PowerMizer, PerfLevelSrc, GPUAdaptiveClockState and may other terrible words to make user "happy".
Learn how to control your NVIDIA GPU frequency under FreeBSD with the original NVIDIA binary driver (should work under Linux too).
